The Quomps are a two minute walk from the Priory. It is an open grassed area next to Town Quay, with refreshments available from several establishments. There is a play park for children, and even an excellent splash park for those youngsters who just want to cool down on a hot day. Note that obviously this is closed in the winter.
So why is it called The Quomps? It has been said that the word is produced from swamp and quagmire, a reference to its marshy, boggy past. Don’t worry, though, it is nothing like that now.
There are regular events here, particularly the famous Stompin on the Quomps.
