You may be aware that the Newtown House care home in Waterford Road, Highcliffe, closed this year. Five months before the closure, the CQC (Care Quality Commission) had launched an investigation into the safe management of medicines and an unexpected death. No enforcement action was taken, but the home closed and planning permission for an extension was granted. However, another application has now been submitted for a new building consisting of six one-bedroom, 14 two-bedroom and 3 three-bedroom flats. The local Parish Council is broadly in favour, though the absence of affordable housing, roof design and density of development were criticised.
