2017 – A Local Christmas

This page just gives a flavour of the community getting together to entertain and have fun. By no means all of the events are represented here, so apologies to those omitted. It would have been a full time job to attend every one!

Sunday 3rd December – Castlepoint

The header image shows an ad-hoc group joining to sing Angels from the Realms of Glory.

Some of the Verwood Concert Brass were performing in the foyer:

Then to Sainsbury’s Foyer, Thursday 7th December

The Diamond Divas. This is from their website:

The Diamond Divas, based in Highcliffe, are a group of ladies who sing to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Trust, Christchurch. Their repertoire includes light popular music and songs from the shows, and since their original formation (as the Starlight Singers) they have been able to donate a substantial amount to the Trust.

Unfortunately I didn’t know this was happening, so only had a long lens with me, hence the close-ups. Don’t forget to email confer@ThisIsChristchurch.com if you have an even you would like to be covered.

A more appropriate lens this time:
Christchurch University of the 3rd Age Vintage Brass Band. This is from their website:

Christchurch U3A Vintage Brass Band organizes concerts for local charities, often in conjunction with local singing groups. Since its first concert in 2007 the band has contributed over £20,000 to various charities. Vintage Brass practises every Monday afternoon at the St. James Institute in Southbourne. Players of all abilities are welcome as the band provides training for the inexperienced and improving players.

Last, but not least: Saturday 16th December

The Christchurch Community Carol Service. The day was dull, but the hymns were enjoyed by lots of the public enjoying the Christmas spirit.

The following hymns and carols were sung, with the Salvation Army Young People’s Band, Boscombe, accompanying, with soloists.

  • O come, all ye faithful
  • Away in a manger
  • While shepherds watched their flocks by night
  • Once in Royal David’s City (musical excerpt below)
  • Hark, the herald angels sing

As well as the band, readers of all ages read from the Christmas Story in the bible.
